US President Joe Biden’s special envoy Amos Hochstein, who is tasked with issues related to Israel’s border between Lebanon and with the issue of Saudi Arabia, met on Tuesday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The meeting was held despite the harsh criticism that Biden leveled at the Israeli government earlier this week, when he said in an interview with CNN that the current Israeli government is the "most extreme" he has ever dealt with.

Israel's Ambassador to the US, Mike Herzog, was called to Israel to participate in the discussion. Among the participants was the head of the National Security Council, Tzachi Hanegbi.

It is believed the meeting focused on the tensions between Israel and Lebanon following the establishment of tents by Hezbollah on Mount Dov.

Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that Netanyahu and Hochstein “discussed regional issues and matters related to the close cooperation between the US and Israel.”
