French President Emmanuel Macron will hold an emergency discussion in the government following the riots in the last three days in the country after the killing of a 17-year-old boy by a policeman.
Across France, more than 667 protesters were arrested Thursday night, while 249 policemen and members of the French security forces were injured in the last day in the riots. French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said the protesters were arrested Thursday night for vandalism, violence against police officers, and a series of arson cases.
The protesters set fire to a bank and buildings of a school and a municipality and in published documentation a high-altitude crane is seen going up in flames after it was set on fire by protesters.
The demonstrators carried signs that read: "Revenge for Nahel," and "Police are Murderers."
According to the local authorities in Nanterre, the boy who was shot to death refused to stop for an inspection by the traffic police. According to the police, the young delivery driver threatened to run over the policemen and their lives were in danger.
The Office of the General Prosecutor in Nanterre announced that the policeman involved was arrested on suspicion of murder. A passenger in the car was arrested for a short time and released and the police are looking for another passenger who fled the scene of the shooting. The family's lawyers demanded that the prosecution charge the shooting officer with murder instead of manslaughter.
